For the first time ever, Rose State College provides $10,000 scholarships to nursing students 

Rose State College proudly announces its receipt of a significant $9.4 million American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant aimed at advancing its nursing programs and supporting aspiring healthcare professionals through generous scholarships. This grant marks a pivotal moment in the institution's commitment to fostering excellence in healthcare education and alleviating financial barriers for nursing students. 

The allocation of funds from this grant will propel the expansion of the nursing programs, enhancing its capacity to train and empower the next generation of nursing professionals. Additionally, Rose State College will extend scholarships of $2,500 per semester for four semesters, totaling $10,000, to 30 nursing students annually to lessen the financial burden. 

Rita Mild, PhD, Dean of Health Sciences at Rose State College, emphasized the significance of this grant, stating, “The majority of our students have complex lives outside of class that create obstacles to their education, monetary and other. These scholarships alleviate some of the financial burden so that they can focus their efforts on achieving their RN goals.” 

Recently, Rose State celebrated the inaugural recipients of the ARPA Nursing Scholarship, showcasing their commitment to supporting these exceptional individuals. Among the awardees are Kerstyn Eiklor, Valerie Gore, Muslimot Ok Lawal, Shyana Ortiz, Kirstyn Brawner, Megan Retherford, Maci Carnes, Lisa Windle, Tyler Shannon, Amenah Rice, Tiffany Brooks, Marah Le-yaha Jones, Shelley Caldwell, Sabrina Dowdy, and Frankie Montoya. 

The celebration, held at the Health Sciences Building on Watts Drive in Midwest City, included Rose State College President Dr. Jeanie Webb, Academic Affairs Vice President Travis Hurst, and the inaugural cohort of nursing scholars. The event served as a testament to the RSC's dedication to nurturing future leaders in the nursing field. 

The grant's impact goes beyond financial assistance. It enables Rose State College to remain steadfast in its mission to prepare skilled, compassionate, and innovative nursing professionals who will make a profound and enduring impact on Oklahoma’s healthcare landscape.
